Relief from Iran peace deal could distract from reform urgency — FPI 17.06.2026

The Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) views the Iran peace deal as an opportunity for the Philippines to address its economic vulnerabilities, despite the immediate relief it offers manufacturers. FPI Chairman Elizabeth H. Lee stated that while the deal provides "breathing room" by potentially stabilizing global oil prices and strengthening the peso, it also highlights how the Philippines lags behind ASEAN neighbors in terms of economic resilience. The FPI urges continued reform efforts, specifically accelerating ease of doing business, enhancing anti-smuggling measures, combating corruption, and fully implementing the Tatak Pinoy Act and CREATE MORE Act. The Management Association of the Philippines president, Donald Patrick L. Lim, cautioned that these gains are contingent on sustained peace and that market confidence depends on certainty, not just announcements.
