Highly contagious bird flu found in Australia for the first time 12h ago

Australia confirmed its first detection of the highly contagious H5N1 bird flu virus on mainland soil, raising concerns as the pathogen has now spread to every continent. Agriculture Minister Julie Collins announced that a brown skua, a migratory seabird, was found dead on a remote beach south of Perth in Western Australia and tested positive for the highly pathogenic strain. Collins emphasized that there was no evidence of mass bird deaths or infection in poultry, but samples from another sick bird in the same area have produced a suspected positive result and are undergoing confirmatory testing.
