From factory floor to World Cup star - Germany's super-sub Undav 7h ago

Deniz Undav has emerged as Germany's super-sub, scoring twice in a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Ivory Coast that secured Die Mannschaft's place in the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since their 2014 title. With three goals and two assists in two substitute appearances, Undav has tied Cameroon's Roger Milla (1990) for the most goal involvements by a substitute at a World Cup since 1966. This success follows a public dispute with manager Julian Nagelsmann after Undav's winning goal against Ghana in March, when Nagelsmann warned him against placing unnecessary pressure on himself by demanding a starting role. Nagelsmann has since apologized and now says Undav could start Germany's final group game against Ecuador.
