Daniel Rush, a 17-year-old from Cape Town, shattered the African record for the 4x4x4 speedcubing challenge with an average time of 23.69 seconds at a weekend event in Sandton, Johannesburg. The competition, organized by Cubestuff under the World Cube Association, was a world first as it took place at the highest elevation for any WCA event—on the 45th floor of The Leonardo, Southern Africa’s tallest building. The highlight 3x3x3 final was held 234 meters high on the rooftop in near-freezing temperatures, where Rush also triumphed with an average time of 7.86 seconds and a best of 6.85 seconds.
