The ACT Wazalendo youth wing has pushed back against statements in the Zanzibar House of Representatives describing local youth as idle, arguing that unemployment in the Isles stems from inadequate policy direction rather than a lack of effort. Speaking to journalists on July 22, 2026, youth wing vice chairperson Mr Nassor Ahmed Marhun emphasized that young people have demonstrated capability across sectors like education, sports, fishing, agriculture, technology, and innovation, despite operating under constrained conditions and weak policy support. He stated that blaming young people disrespects them and reveals a failure to understand the real challenges, urging the government to take responsibility for creating enabling policies.
