A group of over 500 Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) recruits, who completed months of interviews and vetting for the 2025/26 training intake, are now pinning their hopes on the Constitutional Court. This follows the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg striking their case from the roll for lack of urgency. The city of Johannesburg insists that alleged corruption within a subset of 50 recruits necessitates a complete restart of the recruitment process, a decision the candidates are legally challenging.
