The agreement between AzerTelecom and Telecom Armenia marks a significant step in regional cooperation, allowing the two companies to transit international internet traffic through each other’s networks. Under the deal, AzerTelecom will route traffic destined for Armenia, while Telecom Armenia will provide transit for Azerbaijan. A key practical outcome is the possibility of constructing a fibre-optic link connecting mainland Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic via Armenian territory, giving Baku an alternative communications route.
