Excavator Overturns in Ho Man Tin; Construction General Union Calls for Prior Safety Assessments 04.07.2026

A serious industrial accident involving an overturning excavator occurred in Ho Man Tin recently, resulting in one fatality and one injury. The Construction General Union has expressed concern regarding the incident, noting that it took place in a sloped working area and emphasizing that rigorous safety assessments must be conducted before performing similar lifting operations. Union Chairman Chow Sze-kit criticized the incident, stating that given the recent continuous rainfall which softened the soil, the potential overweight of the lifted object (a steel pipe), and the failure to establish exclusion zones or cordoning measures, arranging for workers to operate under such conditions without a risk assessment is a preventable human error rather than a mere accident.
