Alibaba reportedly bans employees from using Claude Code 04.07.2026

Alibaba is set to prohibit its employees from using Anthropic's programming tool, Claude Code, effective July 10. This action follows Anthropic's existing ban on Chinese companies and their foreign subsidiaries using its models. Reports indicate Anthropic has been actively closing access loopholes, including an experiment with Claude Code designed to identify and block Chinese users, a measure intended to prevent account abuse from unauthorized resellers and protect against model distillation. Despite Anthropic's statement that the specific experiment was a temporary measure and has since been superseded by stronger mitigations, Alibaba has deemed Claude Code high-risk. Consequently, Alibaba is directing its employees to utilize its proprietary Qoder tool for programming tasks.
