Iran envoy says friendly nations to get ‘special’ Hormuz fee treatment 04.07.2026

On July 4, 2026, Iranian Ambassador to China Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli announced that Iran intends to implement service fees for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking at the World Peace Forum in Beijing, Fazli clarified that these charges are not tolls but are intended to fund security, vessel supervision, and environmental protection measures. He emphasized that "friendly" nations that supported Iran during difficult periods will receive special fee treatment. This development follows a temporary 60-day agreement with the United States that allowed free transit after the Middle East war. As the Strait of Hormuz carries approximately one-fifth of global oil and gas, Iran is currently collaborating with Oman to establish new permanent arrangements. The move follows the lifting of an Iranian blockade that previously caused global energy prices to soar during the recent conflict.
