Albanian court frees protesters who rallied against Kushner-linked resort 16h ago

A court in Tirana, Albania, has released 19 protesters detained during violent demonstrations against a luxury coastal resort linked to Jared Kushner. The protesters were originally held on suspicion of organizing illegal demonstrations and disturbing public order. According to lawyer Dorian Matlija, two individuals will face house arrest, 12 must report to judicial police periodically, and five face no charges. These protests, which began in May over the resort project in a protected area, have evolved into massive anti-government movements demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Recent escalations included clashes outside parliament where police utilized tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds, resulting in fifteen police injuries and 25 detentions. The movement has grown from environmental concerns into a broader outcry against systemic corruption within the Albanian government.
