Chinese underground church figure Jin Mingri freed from prison 05.07.2026

Jin Mingri, the founder of the Zion Church and a prominent underground church leader, has been released from prison in China and has arrived in Los Angeles, USA. His release follows direct intervention by Donald Trump, who raised the pastor's incarceration during talks with Xi Jinping in May. Jin, also known as Ezra Jin, was detained during massive overnight raids in October, part of a significant crackdown on religious activities in China. The Zion Church, which grew from 20 members in 2007 to 10,000 across 40 cities, was officially banned by the Chinese Communist Party in 2018. While Jin's family expressed immense joy and thanked the Trump administration, rights group ChinaAid noted that many other religious practitioners remain incarcerated. The Chinese foreign ministry has not officially commented on this specific case.
