Police reveal Sarawak man nabbed in Macau heroin bust has past narcotics convictions 11h ago

A 24-year-old man from Sarawak was detained by Macau authorities on June 20 for attempting to smuggle 2.987 kg of heroin, valued at approximately RM2.09 million, through Macau International Airport. The narcotics were cleverly concealed inside sardine cans labeled as tuna paste, which were packed alongside biscuits within the suspect's luggage. Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that the suspect has two prior narcotics convictions under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Investigations suggest the suspect was recruited by a Malaysian syndicate with a promised payment of RM3,000. Notably, the suspect traveled from a neighboring country to the north rather than departing directly from Malaysia. Authorities are currently collaborating with Macau police and regional agencies to identify the syndicate's mastermind and other members involved in this international drug trafficking operation.
