Mallory McMorrow drops out of Michigan's closely watched Senate race 7h ago

Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow has announced her decision to suspend her campaign for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Gary Peters. McMorrow, who raised over $8.6 million, cited heavy outside spending as a primary reason for her withdrawal. Her departure leaves the race as a binary contest between progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed and U.S. Representative Haley Stevens, who holds establishment support. Although McMorrow's name will remain on the August 4th primary ballot because absentee ballots were already distributed, she stated she will support the eventual winner. The Democratic winner will face Republican former U.S. Representative Mike Rogers in the general election. This development follows recent polling showing McMorrow's support dropping into single digits, while El-Sayed and Stevens moved to the forefront of the competitive primary race.
