Ukraine-Russia war latest: Zelensky says Kyiv urgently needs Patriot interceptor missiles after massive attack 07.07.2026

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued an urgent plea for Patriot interceptor missiles following a devastating Russian aerial assault that killed at least 28 people in Kyiv and surrounding regions. During the massive attack, which involved 351 drones and 68 missiles, Ukraine's air defenses were unable to intercept any of the 29 ballistic missiles fired, highlighting a critical deficit in interceptor supplies. Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov warned that Russia is deliberately escalating ballistic missile strikes to exploit this shortage. Amidst this escalation, US President Donald Trump stated that a resolution to the conflict is approaching and plans to discuss the war during the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara. Trump is scheduled to meet with Zelensky on Wednesday to discuss potential peace efforts, following recent communications with both Ukrainian and Russian leadership.
