U.K.-based studio Particle6 has announced that its AI-generated actor, Tilly Norwood, will star in the upcoming feature film "Misaligned." Developed through 2,000 iterations, Norwood is a non-sentient digital entity designed to play an AI being navigating a surreal digital world. Founder Eline van der Velden intends for the coming-of-age story to demonstrate how AI can support premium filmmaking when combined with human craft, including directors and writers. However, the project faces significant opposition from the entertainment industry. SAG-AFTRA has previously criticized Norwood, stating that creativity must remain human-centered and expressing concerns that synthetic performers jeopardize human livelihoods and devalue artistry. This development follows intense labor negotiations and strikes regarding AI guardrails in Hollywood. The film aims to explore themes of identity and performance while addressing human fears regarding artificial intelligence.
