Lawsuit says US illegally shared confidential information on Iranian asylum seekers with Iran 07.07.2026

A lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., alleges that the Trump administration’s immigration agencies illegally shared confidential asylum seeker information with the Iranian government. The complaint, filed by the Iranian American Legal Defense Fund and Public Citizen Litigation Group, claims the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department used the Pakistani embassy as an intermediary to hold monthly meetings starting in March 2025. These meetings allegedly shared sensitive details regarding asylum applications for individuals persecuted for religious conversion, sexuality, or political activism. Despite the Department of Homeland Security's denial of these claims, the lawsuit argues these actions violate federal regulations and endanger lives, especially following the outbreak of war between the U.S. and Iran in February 2026. The plaintiffs seek to halt these disclosures and appoint an independent monitor to oversee future agency conduct.
