Pyrénées wildfires destroy everything in their path: 'I didn't think I'd make it out alive' 07.07.2026

On Monday, July 6, 2026, the village of Ille-sur-Têt in the Pyrénées-Orientales region of France resembled a ghost town as the Trévillach fire raged for a third consecutive day. The intense heat reached 40°C, forcing local authorities to renew evacuation orders for the town's 5,900 residents due to toxic smoke. The fire has caused extensive destruction, leaving gardens covered in ash and streets strewn with car wrecks and debris from destroyed buildings. Residents faced significant hardships, including a lack of transportation as train services were suspended and many lacked private vehicles. While firefighting helicopters attempted to combat the blaze by dropping water near the Têt river, the fire continued to consume the landscape, leaving behind a scene of devastation and precarious lives ruined by the uncontrolled flames.
