Second batch of Chinese experts arrives in DR Congo to reinforce Ebola response 07.07.2026

A second team of Chinese anti-epidemic medical experts arrived in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on Friday to bolster Ebola prevention and control efforts. Welcomed by Luku Maleyo Marius of the DRC health ministry, the team is led by Gu Zhiqiang and will provide essential technical support in epidemiological investigation, laboratory testing, case treatment, and personnel training. This mission reinforces the long-standing health cooperation between China and the DRC. The deployment comes as the Bundibugyo virus (BVD) outbreak continues to escalate, with the World Health Organization reporting 452 deaths and 1,460 confirmed cases in the DRC as of July 1. Additionally, the virus has spread to Uganda and resulted in a laboratory-confirmed infection in a French medical doctor, highlighting the growing regional health crisis.
