What is the new Gaza administration as Hamas dissolves government? 07.07.2026

Hamas has announced the dissolution of its government in Gaza and the transfer of power to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), a Palestinian technocratic body backed by the UN as part of the US-mediated ceasefire. The move, announced by Ismail al-Thawabta on Monday, aims to pressure Israel and appeal to US President Donald Trump by demonstrating Hamas's commitment to governance handover and peaceful rebuilding. However, Israel has dismissed the move as a "trick," insisting on Hamas's disarmament before any transition. The NCAG, formed under UN Security Council Resolution 2803, is led by Acting Commissioner Ali Abdel Hamid Shaath but remains headquartered in Cairo as Israel has not allowed its members to enter Gaza. At least 73,098 people have been killed since the war began in October 2023, with continued Israeli bombardments and control over 70% of the Strip.
