Administration sharing info about asylum seekers with Iranian government, lawsuit claims 07.07.2026

The Iranian American Legal Defense Fund (IALDF) has filed a lawsuit in Washington, D.C., alleging the Trump administration is illegally sharing confidential information about Iranian asylum seekers with the Iranian government. The complaint asserts that the Department of Homeland Security and ICE have disclosed sensitive details, such as asylum applications and removal orders, to Iranian officials. This disclosure reportedly endangers pro-democracy protesters, religious minorities, and LGBTQ individuals by exposing them to potential persecution, torture, or death upon their return to Iran. The IALDF claims that despite the cessation of monthly meetings due to the U.S.-Iran war, document packages are still being delivered to the Iranian Interest Section. While ICE denies these allegations, claiming they only facilitate legal consular access, the IALDF is seeking a federal injunction to block further information sharing and the appointment of a special master to review previously disclosed files.
