ICE fatally shoots Mexican immigrant in Houston 07.07.2026

On Tuesday, July 7, federal immigration enforcement agents fatally shot Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican immigrant, in Houston’s East End neighborhood. The incident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. during a targeted enforcement operation. According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, Salgado Araujo attempted to evade arrest and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an agent, who subsequently fired in self-defense. Salgado Araujo was transported to a hospital but died from his injuries. This fatal encounter follows several similar incidents involving Homeland Security authorities this year, including the deaths of Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, Alex Pretti, and Renee Good. This specific Texas shooting is believed to be the first fatal incident involving ICE agents since the tenure of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin began.
