Kawhi Leonard trade cannot be finalized until NBA completes investigation 09.07.2026

The Toronto Raptors have announced that their planned trade to acquire Kawhi Leonard from the Los Angeles Clippers is currently on hold. The NBA has blocked the finalization of the deal until an investigation into the Clippers' salary cap compliance is completed. The Raptors must assume the risk of any penalties resulting from the investigation before proceeding. The proposed trade involves the Raptors sending Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks to Los Angeles. The investigation stems from allegations that the Clippers violated salary cap rules via a $28 million endorsement contract with Aspiration Fund Adviser LLC. While the Clippers deny any wrongdoing and claim they were victims of fraud, the league requires a resolution before the 35-year-old star can officially return to Toronto.
