In 2010, archaeologist David Stuart and his team discovered a painted chamber at the Maya site of Xultun in modern-day Guatemala. The chamber contained numerous mathematical and astronomical formulas, which appeared to be attributed to a specific individual. An inscription on the chamber's wall reads "so says Saktahnwaax," suggesting the formulas were signed by or attributed to this person. This marks the first time a Maya scientist has been named, as previous discoveries only identified kings, queens, or political figures.
