A pattern is emerging among people who’ve already made it big in tech. They’re rolling up their sleeves again, seemingly out of fear of missing AI’s defining moment and the allure of making even more money. Tom Blomfield, co-founder of GoCardless and Monzo, announced he is taking a leave of absence from Y Combinator to join Anthropic’s compute team as a member of technical staff. He joins Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, who became Anthropic’s Chief Product Officer in 2024, and Andrej Karpathy, a founding OpenAI member who joined Anthropic’s pre-training team in May, framing the decision as a chance to be part of a formative era for LLMs.
