The Western Cape High Court on Wednesday heard arguments from multiple opposition parties urging it to reject President Cyril Ramaphosa's urgent application for an interdict to stop Parliament's impeachment committee from starting public hearings. Advocate Anton Katz, representing the African Transformation Movement, argued that granting the interdict would constitute "cutting into the lane of Parliament," violating the separation of powers doctrine. The Economic Freedom Fighters, uMkhonto Wesizwe, and United Africans Transformation parties joined in opposing the application, while the impeachment committee itself also resolved to challenge the interdict on legal grounds.
