'Anti-ICE' Army veteran set fire outside Manhattan federal building, say officials 21.07.2026

A former US Army soldier, Andrew Arrabaca, 43, was arrested after igniting a fire outside 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan on Monday morning, according to the FBI. The building houses offices for the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and US Citizenship and Immigration Services, and has been a focal point for protests against President Donald Trump's immigration policies. Arrabaca allegedly shot a pellet gun and set off fireworks before pouring an accelerant on the stairs of an entrance, causing a fire that was extinguished by the fire department. Three people sustained minor injuries, including an immigrant attending a status hearing and two government employees. A security officer who tackled and detained Arrabaca also suffered minor injuries.
