Enemalta has restored power to affected areas in Valletta after completing repairs to two damaged underground electricity cables, a process complicated by existing underground infrastructure. A separate team was deployed to the capital on Thursday to replace a temporary generator that developed technical faults. Executive Chairperson Ryan Fava stated that record-breaking temperatures drove electricity demand to unprecedented levels, reaching a peak of 741MW in recent days, which placed exceptional strain on sections of the network.
