Arable farmer Olly Harrison, from Tarbock near Prescot on Merseyside, has told the BBC that recent heatwaves have reduced his crop yield by up to half, forcing him to spend additional time and money on processing to make the crops sellable. He now operates 14 different income streams, including dog walking fields, offices, and recycling tree waste, as well as a YouTube channel, to afford farming equipment. Harrison stated that unless a farm is large with no borrowing and cash reserves, there is no future without diversification, particularly in the North West due to the climate. To compound his difficulties, his fields have also been targeted by arsonists during the latest heatwave.
