Flock Safety, a company operating 120,000 automated license plate reader (ALPR) and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras across the United States, is facing unprecedented opposition from citizens and local governments alike. The cameras, which capture tens of billions of data points monthly, have been targeted in acts of vandalism including sawing, painting, and ramming with vehicles. Cities including Fort Collins, Colorado; Eugene, Oregon; and Syracuse, New York have deactivated cameras or canceled contracts.
