Researchers have confirmed the first documented sighting of an aggregation of juvenile smooth hammerhead sharks in the Galapagos Islands in over two decades. The discovery, led by María Antonia from Texas A&M University at Galveston, sheds new light on a species that has long gone unnoticed in the region. While the Galapagos are famous for scalloped hammerhead sharks, smooth hammerheads had not been officially recorded there for more than 20 years.
