Surgeons in the UK are increasingly training with robotic assistance for keyhole surgery, a move driven by the overstretched National Health Service (NHS). The technology, such as the da Vinci 5 system made by US company Intuitive, allows for more precise operations through smaller wounds, which can shorten hospital stays and recovery times. This, in turn, is expected to free up bed space and reduce waiting lists. The government has set a target for robotic assistance to be used in 9 out of 10 keyhole surgeries in England by 2035.
