The North Carolina Republican has disputed the findings, with his lawyers arguing that the committee bypassed standard procedures and that the gifts were based on personal friendships. The report, which refers to the women as "Staffer 1" and "Staffer 2," describes how Edwards bought them designer purses, guns, jewelry, and tickets to Broadway shows, including "Hamilton." In one instance, he sent Staffer 2 about 30 different types of ice cream in June 2024, writing, "You looked like you needed a lot of cheering up! My heart was breaking seeing you like that."
