Sliema’s Fortizza to get German Kraft microbrewery 05.08.2026

The Planning Authority has approved a project to restore and adapt the Sliema Point Battery, a historic fort known as Il-Fortizza, for a new microbrewery by German Kraft, a UK-based independent craft beer company. The approval includes restoring original features, removing later accretions, and adapting underused areas of the Grade 1 scheduled monument. The project, submitted by Andreas Bollen on behalf of German Kraft, involves installing a microbrewery within the fort’s ditch along Tower Road, with a lightweight, reversible glazed roof. Brewery equipment, including fermentation tanks and pumps, will be placed on supports to avoid contact with the historic fabric. The existing restaurant at Il-Fortizza will remain, with the microbrewery considered ancillary to the catering establishment, and no additional parking requirements are needed.
