The International Monetary Fund said on Tuesday that Syria's economic recovery is accelerating, though growth is unevenly distributed and poverty remains widespread. IMF mission chief Ron Van Rooden made the remarks after a visit to Damascus in mid-July, noting that economic activity is expected to expand due to agricultural recovery, rising hydrocarbon production, improved electricity provision, and growth in trade and services. The return of refugees and increased visitors are also supporting economic activity, which the fund projects will remain strong next year.
