Taiwan kicks off annual military drills to counter a potential Chinese attack 9h ago

Taiwan commenced its annual Han Kuang military exercises on Wednesday, designed to simulate a defense against a potential Chinese invasion. The 10-day live-fire drills, held at various locations across the island, will test the army's ability to sustain 24-hour defense operations and counter China's "gray-zone tactics," which involve actions short of open warfare. A key component of this year's exercises is the mobilization of the largest-ever team of reservists, with over 5,000 service members across two brigades, up from one brigade of more than 3,000 last year. The drills will assess how quickly reserves can transition from peacetime standby to full active duty.
