A six-member regional commission has officially begun a criminal investigation into the violence that marred Tanzania's October 2025 general elections. The commission has been granted 150 days, or approximately five months, to complete its work and submit an official report. President Samia stated that an extension would be considered if requested to ensure a thorough investigation. The commission will build on the groundwork of the Chande Commission, which collected face-to-face interviews with 1,323 victims, written affidavits from 953 individuals, and conducted forensic analysis of hundreds of images and videos.
