Mchunu violated protocol to share confidential report with Idac, inquiry hears 11.08.2026

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry heard on Tuesday that former police minister Senzo Mchunu flouted established procedures by sharing a confidential IGI report with Idac's chief investigator, Dylan Perumal. Idac prosecutor Drushantha Ramsamy testified that in January 2025, Idac was explicitly told the report could not be shared while the IGI investigation was ongoing. However, eight months later, Mchunu allegedly arranged for the report to be flown to Perumal in the Eastern Cape, who then shared it with Ramsamy via WhatsApp. Ramsamy emphasized that the IGI Act prescribes specific channels for sharing such information, and that the report "was not supposed to come to us in that way via the minister."
