Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has strongly denied any link to the mismanagement of Tabung Haji's (TH) troubled Al-Rawda investment, asserting he had no authority over the agency's decisions during his tenure as deputy religious affairs minister. This denial comes after a 2017 photograph of Asyraf at a signing ceremony for a 10-year lease extension with Al-Rawda Real Estate Development and Project Management Co Ltd circulated on Facebook, sparking allegations of his involvement. Asyraf explained that he was in Makkah as Malaysia's chief of the haj delegation in 2017 and was invited to represent the minister at the event, emphasizing that deputy ministers had no role in TH's operations or approvals. He noted that TH's CEO and management handled operational matters, with oversight from the chairman and board, while major policies were decided by the religious affairs minister. Asyraf pointed out that neither the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) nor enforcement agencies had summoned him for questioning, underscoring his lack of involvement.
