In the Chinese border town of Pingxiang, a surge in cross-border trade is powering Vietnam’s industrial expansion. Li Anzhang, a warehouse supervisor for logistics company Chefuwang, oversees a facility that has grown 17 times its 2021 size to handle the flow of machinery, components, and materials destined for Vietnamese factories. The goods, including supplies for electronics giants like Foxconn and Nokia, as well as Apple suppliers and BYD, travel from Chinese manufacturing hubs like Guangdong and Jiangsu. This activity is driven by higher American tariffs that have prompted Chinese manufacturers to set up factories in Vietnam, creating an extension of China’s supply chains.
