NSC blocks Datasonic takeover, vows to shield MyKad and passport identity under strict oversight 22.08.2026

The National Security Council (MKN) announced on August 22 that the Madani Government will not proceed with the acquisition of Datasonic Technologies Sdn Bhd (DTSB), a key provider of citizen identity services. This decision comes in response to media reports about a potential buyout, which had valued DTSB at approximately RM7.5 billion. MKN stressed that the identity of the people is one of the country's most important strategic assets, and security and sovereignty are top priorities.
