Housing prices near Sunam Market in Chongjin, North Korea, have skyrocketed to as much as three times their pre-pandemic levels, according to a source in North Hamgyong province. A rundown one-room house that sold for 10,000 to 15,000 Chinese yuan before the pandemic now trades for about 30,000 yuan, while a standard two-room house has climbed from 40,000 to 50,000 yuan to roughly 100,000 yuan. The steepest gains are seen in two-room houses close enough to the market to double as shops or storage, which have nearly tripled from 50,000 to 60,000 yuan to as much as 150,000 yuan.
