The Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled a new glow-in-the-dark coin that appeals to dinosaur enthusiasts and collectors alike. The one-ounce fine silver coin depicts a Tyrannosaurus rex moving through a swampy woodland, while a Quetzalcoatlus northropi, a giant flying reptile, soars overhead. Under black light, a hidden layer reveals the fossilized forms of these prehistoric animals, described by the Mint as “a nod to the remarkable discoveries preserved in Canada’s fossil-rich landscapes.” The artwork was created by Canadian paleoartist Julius Csotonyi and scientifically reviewed by Dr. François Therrien, a paleontologist at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Alberta.
