The Mindoro Forest and Biodiversity Conservation Programme (MFBCP), led by the Center for Conservation Innovations Philippines Inc. (CCIPH), is testing whether the UN-backed REDD+ mechanism can deliver lasting benefits for the Iraya Mangyan Indigenous community in Puerto Galera, Mindoro. Running from 2020 to 2049, the project integrates ancestral-domain support, Indigenous forest patrols, carbon monitoring, and livelihood initiatives to conserve nearly 99,000 acres of ancestral forest while supporting about 2,500 households. Community patrollers, like 56-year-old Bernito Pampilo, have strengthened monitoring and helped reduce timber poaching and small-scale mining, while surveys have documented 517 species, including 134 rare or threatened animals.
