A catastrophic flood event in Barangay Sto. Cristo, Lubao, Pampanga, has left six houses destroyed and over 100 residents displaced after a clogged dam caused rampaging waters to surge through the community. The incident began around 11 a.m. on August 28 when massive logs, tree branches, and other debris washed down from the uplands and completely blocked the floodgate of the Sto. Cristo Dam. With no passage through the gate, the overflowing water breached the riverbank and slope protection structure, eroding the soil beneath nearby homes until they collapsed and were swept away by the current. One house collapsed live on television during a 24 Oras Weekend report as the floodwaters continued to erode the ground beneath it.
