India's Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal strongly defended the country's 7.8% GDP growth rate for the April-June 2026 quarter, dismissing critics and Opposition leaders who questioned the data's accuracy. Speaking at an event, Goyal said, "A few jobless people call themselves economists and appear on TV channels to harm the country. Do not fall for this." He accused Opposition leaders of wanting to see India as "a dead economy" and asserted that India will continue to grow rapidly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
