US power crunch looms as OKLO CEO says grid can’t keep up without new investment 19.01.2026

OKLO CEO Jacob DeWitte warns that the United States faces an imminent power crunch due to the escalating demands of artificial intelligence, stating the current energy grid is unprepared. DeWitte highlighted structural issues and regulatory burdens hindering new investment and capacity expansion. He announced a significant partnership with Meta to develop a 1.2 GW nuclear installation in Pike County, Ohio, aiming to bolster grid stability and address power shortages projected within a few years, particularly in the Midwest and Northeast. DeWitte emphasized that smaller, advanced nuclear plants can be built faster and more cost-effectively, contributing to energy dominance and reliability, while also noting that decades of anti-energy policies have created significant challenges that are now beginning to be addressed.
