A ferry carrying over 350 people, the MV Trisha Kerstin 3, capsized off the southern Philippine province of Basilan early Monday morning while en route to Jolo Island from Zamboanga City. The vessel, with 332 passengers and 27 crew, issued a distress signal at 1:50 am, approximately four hours after departure. At least 15 people have been confirmed dead, with 316 rescued and 28 still unaccounted for. Rescue efforts, involving the coastguard, Navy, and Air Force, are ongoing. The cause of the sinking, which occurred in good weather about 1 nautical mile from Baluk-baluk village, is under investigation, though the coastguard had cleared the ferry prior to its departure.
