Millions of AI chat messages exposed in app data leak 05.02.2026

A security researcher discovered that the popular mobile app Chat & Ask AI, with over 50 million users, exposed hundreds of millions of private chatbot conversations online due to a misconfigured Google Firebase backend. This breach, affecting approximately 25 million users, included full chat histories, timestamps, custom chatbot names, and AI model configurations. The exposed messages contained deeply personal and disturbing requests, such as inquiries about suicide methods and illegal activities, highlighting the risks of insecure data storage by apps that act as wrappers for large language models from companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Experts warn that such data can be a gold mine for attackers, revealing sensitive personal information that, once exposed, can be shared indefinitely.
