Kyoto’s famed Ginkakuji temple to raise admission fees for first time in 32 years 06.02.2026

The Straits Times

Kyoto's renowned Ginkakuji temple, a World Heritage Site officially known as Jishoji, will implement its first admission fee increase in 32 years starting in April. The general admission fee will double from 500 yen (S$4) to 1,000 yen, while fees for elementary and junior high school students will rise from 300 yen to 500 yen. These adjustments are intended to fund the preservation of the temple's national treasures, including the Kannonden hall (silver pavilion) and Togudo hall, as well as its scenic gardens, amidst escalating prices and labor costs. Admission for individuals with disabilities will remain 100 yen, and children below elementary school age will continue to enter for free.
